The Wades, named among the top 200 photographers in the world, wanted to relocate into an abandoned metal warehouse. The four parcel purchase included an attached brick warehouse, which became the second business.
Pendulum converted the brick warehouse into an event space with a seven foot chandelier, and added a beer garden holding one of the only green spaces in the East Crossroads, with a party tent to adjacent parking as needed. The detailing runs to the 1920s: Edison bulbs, subway tile, tin cornices, exposed brick and barrel vault, custom metal stairs with copper tread trim. Reclaimed barn hardwood ceilings and sinks from a Harley Davidson plant floor carry the sustainability through.
Two businesses came out of one four parcel purchase: the studio the Wades came for, and an event space and beer garden that earn when the cameras are off. That is the difference between buying a building and underwriting one.
