Green Bay, Wisconsin. A new ballpark for the Green Bay Bullfrogs.
The first order of business was not the design, it was the site. Several were considered, and a six acre brownfield parcel in downtown Green Bay settled it.
The parcel is bordered by the Fox River to the east, a 200 foot wide river inlet to the north and the Mason Street bridge to the south, which is about as constrained as a ballpark site gets. The design focuses on right sizing the facility to those six acres and converting the constraint into the asset, with views to the Fox River and the downtown skyline from inside the bowl. A smaller park on the right ground outperforms a larger one on the wrong ground.
Right sizing is the whole strategy on 6 acres. Rather than fight the inlet, the river and the bridge, the design takes the views they create and sells them, turning a parcel most teams would have passed on into the reason to be there.
