Kansas City, Missouri. Architect of Record for concessions and hospitality at the new KCI terminal, with Silhouette Design Architecture for Vantage Group.
The new terminal opened in early 2023 at a cost of $1.5 billion across 1.1 million square feet and 39 gates. Pendulum and SDA were hired to complete full design documentation, construction administration and close out inside the overall project schedule.
The spaces include Director's Cut Take II, Meat Mitch BBQ, Soiree Steak and Seafood House, The Leagues Sports Lounge and Eatery, Safe Fresh, a commissary kitchen, Martin City Brewery and new offices for the Vantage team. Concessions are where an airport actually earns per passenger, and they have to be delivered against a schedule nobody will move.
The overall terminal was led by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill with design build team Clark Weitz Clarkson. The 1.1 million square foot building achieved LEED Gold, uses local materials and public art, and was a majority women led project. Pendulum's scope was the revenue floor inside it.
