Kansas City, Missouri. A boutique vintage storefront just outside Westport for founder Pat Klima.
Klima already had a storefront in Merriam and a thriving e-commerce business, but wanted a strategically placed location in the urban core. The usable interior came to roughly 800 square feet, previously a fabric shop.
To get the crisp New York boutique feel Klima wanted, Pendulum had to maximize every foot of floor and organize inventory on the walls without looking cluttered. The existing wood veneer floors were in good shape and were kept. The build ran fourteen days from the start of construction to finish. Eight hundred square feet in the right location outsells three thousand in the wrong one, provided the walls are doing the merchandising.
Klima and Pendulum's Jonathan Cole met through a mutual friend and found a shared preference for clean lines and crisp detail. That alignment is what made a 14 day build possible on 800 square feet, where nothing could be decided twice.
