Kansas City, Missouri. A historic Troost Avenue fire station converted into an event venue.
The new owners wanted a building that could earn as a venue without losing what made it worth buying in the first place.
The design retains many of the existing structural components and detailed finishes, paying homage to the history and previous uses of the building while adding the modern amenities a paying event calendar requires. A fire station already has the clear span, the ceiling height and the street presence an event space needs. The work was to add what it lacked and remove nothing that mattered.
Retaining the structure and the detailed finishes kept the character that makes the venue bookable, while the modern amenities are what let it charge. The building now earns on a calendar rather than sitting as a preserved artifact. More at firehousekc.com.
