North Port, Florida. Spring training home of the Atlanta Braves. Opened 2019 at a cost of $125 million. Visionary Design Award, Construction Specifications Institute, 2019.
The Braves have consistently operated ahead of the curve on the sports business model, and the brief was a campus rather than a ballpark.
CoolToday Park runs eighty acres: 55,000 square feet of major and minor league clubhouses, 15,000 square feet of team training, four full size practice fields, an agility surface larger than a football field, indoor weight training, a nutrition center, maintenance and player dormitories. The ballpark seats 6,000 with 8,500 capacity, and 80 percent of its concourses are protected from the Florida sun and rain.
The design borrows the outfield wall dimensions and the Below The Chop hospitality area from SunTrust Park and honors Braves hall of famers in larger than life imagery on key facades, so a spring training site trades on major league equity. Hank Aaron called it a major league facility.
