Kansas City, Missouri. A commercial advertising photography studio built inside a former cell phone data center.
The building was, for lack of a better word, a bunker. Wide open spans, clean wall surfaces and almost no openings, which suited a shooting floor very well and an office very badly.
Three problems drove the design. Make a windowless interior somewhere people can work comfortably every day. Keep the shooting floor flexible enough for props and set builds to move in and out constantly. Integrate a specific set of operational requirements without adding visual clutter.
The answer used what was already there: raw concrete floors cleaned and polished, walls in a neutral palette, and new partitions arranged so glass faces the common space. The owners described their style as timeless modern with a few quirks. The budget went into the working set, not the finishes.
