The Story
When we took delivery of this vehicle it was the classic case of “looks great from 10 feet away, but up close it’s got issues.” The previous owner loved the car but attempted service and maintenance as a weekend warrior…It needed a lot of TLC. The first phase of our work was simply correcting as many of the mechanical issues as possible. The motor was in overall great condition, but we encountered at least a dozen gremlins elsewhere that made the driving experience unbearable. Phase one included replacing the clutch, shift bushing, brake rotors & pads, reconnecting brake sensors, complete transmission overhaul, repair the speedometer gear, update miscellaneous sensors and relays, replace turn signals, service the air conditioning system, re-plumb the heating lines.
Phase two involved a complete repair/restoration of the electrical system from the cabin forward. The entire wiring harness was removed and shipped to Kroon in the Netherlands for a complete repair and re-loom which included a new modernized fuse panel. We opted to upgrade the headlamp assembly to LED so we added the Kroon relay kit to protect the headlamp switch assembly on the dash. Upon receipt of the completed harness we placed it back in the vehicle in reverse order. We made miscellaneous repairs to most sensors and factory connectors as needed.
Phase three is when we turned our attention to the overall styling of the car with the thought of maintaining a classic look with a bit of an aggressive edge. We added 20mm wheel spacers and stud extensions to the front and 30mm spacers and stud extensions to the rear to accomplish a flush fender look. Using the factory torsion bars we lowered the stance to the Euro specification. The rims and rotors were refinished and factory Porsche logo caps replaced. A Rennline two point strut tower bar was added to the front bonnet. The exterior was sent out for minor body repair followed by a full front bonnet protective vinyl wrap including running boards, side mirrors, and windshield and headlamps. The entire car was buffed and ceramic coated.
Phase four - the final phase, involved a complete replacement of the interior. Vintage Fabrication LLC designed a new leather package that included with diamond stitched seats and door panels accented by plush alcantara dash and top ring. New custom front and rear side panels were fabricated to conceal a 13 speaker sound system powered by three amplifiers designed by JModz of California. We chose Porsche Classic Radio for our head unit which added Sirius XM, bluetooth connectivity, handsfree phone, and GPS navigation. Rennline accessories were added to complete the overall classic look at the floor boards, door handles, window knobs, fire extinguisher, phone mount, heater controls and instrument panel trim rings.
